1. Golden Milk
Golden Milk is one of the most popular substitutes for coffee. It is a warm, caffeine-free, drink that is a whole lot healthier than a standard cup of coffee.
If you didn’t already know, golden milk is also known as turmeric milk. This is because it incorporates a range of different spices to deliver an earthy flavour, with the main spice being turmeric. A lot of people take turmeric tablets due to the fact that turmeric supports healthy digestion. Drinking golden milk may help to deliver the same effects.
The great thing about golden milk is that it takes no longer than five minutes to make. Here’s how:
-
Combine one cup of milk with the following ingredients:
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
- Pinch of black pepper
- In a saucepan, continually stir the mixture on a low to medium heat.
- Once heated, pour the mixture into your mug and enjoy.
2. Matcha Tea
Matcha tea is a popular form of green tea that involves grinding leaves from the Camellia Sinensis plant into a powder. Unlike standard green tea, you consume the whole leaf when making matcha tea. Due to this, matcha tea often has a far higher caffeine contents than coffee.
Similarly to golden milk, matcha tea is recognised for its natural and earthy flavour. It can one again be made in a matter of minutes. Here’s how:
- With help from a mesh strainer, sift two teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl.
- Add hot water to the bowl (but make sure that it’s not boiling!).
- Stir the mixture slowly until the powder dissolves. Once dissolved, whisk back and forth (preferably with a traditional bamboo tea whisk).
- Once a light froth forms, the tea will be ready. If you wish to make the tea creamy, simply add one cup of steamed milk.
3. Lemon Water
If you don’t fancy spending money on ingredients or time whisking a drink, lemon water provides the perfect solution. It is both calorie and caffeine-free yet contains a good amount of vitamin C. Here’s how you make it:
- Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to one cup of cold water.
- If you wish to transform the taste, add other fruits or herbs for extra flavour. This could be anything from cucumber to watermelon or basil to mint.
If you’re a coffee lover and naturally prefer warm drinks, don’t worry. Lemon water could still be a tasty option for you! Instead of adding the lemon juice to cold water, simply add it to boiling water, instead.
