PID is when the bacteria get into the urethra, where it causes inflammation and a white blouse or grayish tint to develop. PID is usually not life threatening, although in advanced stages it can cause sterility and other reproductive problems. Meningitis is an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord and can result in serious problems if untreated.
Syphilis is another STD affecting the reproductive system. This is a serious condition that results in many people having recurring bouts of diarrhea and pelvic pain. Signs and symptoms of syphilis are similar to that of gonorrhea, however, there are some key differences. Signs of syphilis include the presence of a rash, fever, and joint and muscle aches. Some people with syphilis will experience symptoms that do not closely match those of gonorrhea and should be tested for syphilis immediately.
Not all STDs are made equal, and each one has specific characteristics that make them dangerous. When contacted in its early stages, chlamydia and gonorrhea are easy to detect. Unfortunately, people often think they have a simple case of either or both and do not seek treatment. Untreated, these infections can lead to serious health complications including infertility and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and even pneumonia and death. If you think you have one of these conditions, you need to visit a doctor for tests, so that you can determine if you have syphilis or another STD.
There are many other STDs that can affect the reproductive system, including hepatitis B, genital herpes, and HIV. These diseases all share some of the same symptoms, such as itching around the genitals, and burning during urination.
