Top 5 Things to Keep in Mind When Using Clear Braces

Sometimes, we go to a specialized dentistry practice to improve our smiles for better aesthetics and functionality. With the growth of milk teeth and the change to permanent ones, the way our teeth fit together is different including the spacing in the jaw and gums. it is not adequate or very wide.

Depending upon budget and access to services, it is possible to look for temporary or economic solutions for a minimal adjustment to the teeth in order to show off a more beautiful smile. However, if the desire is to show off a healthy and pleasing smile, it is better to go to an orthodontist,  the ideal professional to determine the adjustments that must be made and the time it will take.

Currently, most orthodontic treatments involve the use of braces to correct problems in the adjustment of the bite and alignment of the teeth. These brackets come in different presentations.  some look better aesthetically and still provide the expected result.

What Are Transparent Braces?

These brackets, also called “aesthetic”, cost more than those that are transparent or white. This will depend upon the material since appearance helps in adaptation due to their tone against the dental enamel and the subsequent sensation in the mouth.

The material will define the cost of the treatment. You must also understand that care and handling are different. However, the type of transparent braces cannot always be determined by the cost; it also goes hand in hand with the needs of the treatment.

What Should Be Taken Into Account When Using Translucent Braces?

Some variables must be taken into account when using braces :

  1. Preferably indicated in adults: although they are highly aesthetic and serve to correct malocclusion problems, the use of translucent braces is recommended in adults and not in children or adolescents. they can fracture or detach more easily than metallic ones.
  2. The cost of changing each piece is much higher as compared to metal ones depending upon the material. In addition, adhesion to the enamel is a bit lower, so special care must be taken
  3. Be careful with drinks and food as they can stain and deteriorate the aesthetics of brackets. Foods that contain tomatoes or mustard are examples of strongly colored foods that can stain braces. Coffee and red wine are other good examples of beverages that stain. It’s best to avoid them, but if it is not possible, brushing your teeth or rinsing with water after eating can reduce the degree of staining. Another option is the consumption of carbonated drinks with a straw to prevent staining. By the way, hard candy or candy with a lot of dye should be avoided.
  4. Smoking or vaping also affect the color of clear braces. Nicotine is known to stain teeth, and this is no different with clear or white braces. Nicotine stains cannot be removed by normal cleaning, so the dentist will ask brace wearers to avoid these practices.
  5. Dental hygiene is essential. The use of an interdental or electric brush to remove all types of debris is advised along with, dental floss or the use, of dental irrigators, and mouthwashes free of alcohol and dyes. Consume water with meals to rinse the teeth and braces and brush twice a day to prevent staining.

Finally, periodic controls such as those suggested by an orthodontic specialist will be key to the success of the treatment. The important thing is to take proper care and comply with the indications. Do not give up treatment to obtain the desired dental aesthetics.
