Want More Energy? Try Something New

Energy is amazing but something that many people take for granted. They do not notice how important it is until it is gone and they are tired and cranky all of the time. It can take some experimenting and medical advice to rediscover energy, and some of these methods may be new to you.

Adaptogenic Supplements

Adaptogenic supplements are plant- and mushroom-based supplements that can combat fatigue and stress, giving you more energy. American ginseng is one example. Mushroom tinctures are another. The tinctures are portable, giving you the opportunity for a few drops under your tongue on the go or letting you add some to your tea or another type of drink. You can even use tinctures on planes.

These supplements can boost your energy, help your immune system, stabilize your blood glucose, and enhance your memory. They can also relieve stress and give you B vitamins. Side effects are rare, but there is the potential for interaction with medications or certain conditions. Always get medical advice before starting a tincture regimen.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you have the time in your life to volunteer, consider it as a way to ramp up your energy. Volunteering can serve critical functions such as giving you purpose, making you feel wanted and needed, helping you socialize, and reducing loneliness. Other common benefits include the following.

Volunteering differs from paid work in that you’re a lot more likely to find volunteer work, and more than that, to discover volunteer opportunities that are meaningful. You can tailor them to fit your schedule and lifestyle whereas paid work offers much less flexibility in that respect.

As many people get into the groove of volunteering, they find themselves happier and quicker to roll out of bed. Their energy comes back.

Moving

When your energy is zapped, the last thing you want is to think about getting up and going for even a two-minute walk. However, moving for short amounts of time can give you energy. That two-minute walk could turn into a five- or even 10-minute stroll.

If you already exercise, maybe you need to change it up. It’s possible that your regimen has become stale, and you need novelty or spice. Try ditching the gym for a week in favor of, say, tai chi classes or hikes.

Counseling or Talk Therapy

Keeping things inside of you can be a huge mental and energy drain. Counseling enables you to free yourself and get burdens off your chest. With fewer things holding you down, you may feel less fatigued and more energetic.

Play

Whatever play means to you, try a little of it (or a lot of it). Having fun with Play-Doh, swinging at the park, coloring in a coloring book, pretending with a child, or getting goofy with friends can do wonders for your mood and energy.

Taking life too seriously is an energy drain. Silliness and playfulness may restore some of your energy. Competition may, too. It can get these energy juices flowing quickly, so look into adult sports in your community, bowling leagues, jigsaw puzzle contests, and the like.

Travel

There’s nothing like a change of scenery and new experiences to rejuvenate a person’s energy and outlook. Travel can be extremely elaborate or as simple as going somewhere nearby that you have not been to before.

Experiences

You do not always have to travel for new experiences. For example, you can take a class, begin to meditate, volunteer, sign up for a sport, or read a book. New experiences often mean more energy.

Pet

A new pet, especially a dog, usually comes with energy and demands. Dogs love walks and exercise and can be the best thing to happen to your energy in a long time.

Choose your pet wisely, though. You do not want one that ends up draining your energy even more and causing lots of stress. That might happen with, say, a puppy who is not toilet-trained and who chews on everything in sight. A good happy spot could be a young, toilet-trained dog whose personality has developed enough for you to know whether it matches yours well.

Screen Clampdown

Some people lack energy because of the time they spend on their phones, tablets, computers, gaming consoles, and so on. The toll can be physical, for example, stressing the brain and eyes. It can be mental too. People constantly compare themselves to others on social media, and that can really hurt self-confidence and energy.

Simply putting down your screens or using them less may lead to a huge boost in energy. Instead of being on your phone, you might go for a walk, write a letter to an old friend, or go dancing.

Rediscovering your energy can take more than drinking additional water and going out into the sunshine. Volunteering, enjoying a new pet, and being silly could be just the things for you.
